Mate tea is an infusion made from the dried leaves of the South American yerba mate tree (Ilex paraguariensis). It contains natural caffeine and has an invigorating effect, similar to coffee – but without the typical jitteriness. Due to its minerals, antioxidants, and bitter compounds, it is considered beneficial for body and mind. Traditionally, mate is drunk from a gourd with a bombilla (a straw-like device), but it can also be brewed like tea.

Mate – more than a drink.
Mate tea is a unique beverage made from the leaves and branches of the yerba mate tree (Ilex paraguariensis). The name comes from the drinking vessel – the matí, a gourd . The yerba mate or erva mate is poured into the gourd, water is added, and it is drunk through a bombilla , a straw with a filter. The taste, effects, and method of drinking make mate something special.
In Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, mate is ubiquitous – there, it's called the drink of the gods. Every day begins with mate. It's more than just a beverage: a part of the culture, a unifying element, and a good friend in every situation.
Find your type.
Brazilian Erva Mate is fresh and earthy-grassy with a velvety texture. Argentinian Yerba Mate matures for two years, developing a well-rounded bitterness with delicate cocoa notes. Green Mate tea consists of pure leaves – clear, intense, and the most invigorating of all varieties. Roasted Mate tea surprises with a mild, nutty aroma – simply brew and enjoy.

That's why caámate tastes so pure and powerful.
Our yerba mate trees grow in the shade of other trees and are only harvested every two years. This gives each leaf time to develop – resulting in leaves richer in antioxidants and minerals than yerba mate harvested annually.
After harvesting, gentle processing follows: Our leaves never come into contact with smoke or fire. Thanks to modern air drying, we preserve the naturally fresh taste and purity of the leaves – without PAHs, without compromise.
This is how mate tea works.
Mate combines the best of coffee, tea, and cacao in one drink. Caffeine wakes you up and improves concentration. Theobromine from the cacao plant provides sustained energy without jitters. Antioxidants and polyphenols support your immune system.
Compared to coffee, mate has a gentler and longer-lasting effect – without the typical crash afterwards. One cup contains approximately 80 mg of caffeine. It also contains vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that stimulate metabolism and promote digestion.
Whether as a natural stimulant, during sports or for focusing – mate supports you every day.

Preparing mate tea.
The classic way: A mate cup, a bombilla, and caámate – that's the taste of the mate lifestyle. Multiple infusions allow the full aroma to unfold – invigorating, natural, and unmistakable.
There are other ways to enjoy mate – stylishly prepared in a French press or tea strainer. You control the intensity and brewing time; the result: a clear, delicate flavor.
Frequently asked questions about mate tea
A cup of mate tea contains approximately 70–85 mg of caffeine – comparable to a cup of coffee. The effect is often described as gentler and longer-lasting. The exact caffeine content varies depending on the variety: green mate tea has the highest content (approx. 1.4–1.7%), while yerba mate and erva mate contain approximately 0.7–1.2%. You can find the exact values for each variety.
Yerba Mate is our mature leaf cut – with a well-rounded bitterness and delicate cocoa notes. Erva Mate is the same leaf cut, but fresh and unaged – giving it a fresher, earthy-grassy flavor. Both consist of leaves, twigs, and a small amount of powder.
Step 1: Place the insert in the mate cup . Heat water to 60–80°C, pour some into the cup (until the insert is covered), and pour the rest into the thermos.
Step 2: Pour in the mate and form an even mound. Push the bombilla through the mound of mate to the bottom.
Step 3: Let it steep for about 1 minute, then drink. Before pouring more, use the bombilla to make a small hole.
Step 4: Keep topping up. If the mate becomes too weak, rinse with fresh leaves under running water. Cheers!
Tip: Enjoy immediately after pouring – do not let it steep.
No. Mate tea comes from the yerba mate tree (Ilex paraguariensis), a holly species from South America. Green tea is made from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). The two plants are not related. Mate and green tea differ in taste, effects, and preparation – the only thing they have in common is that they both contain caffeine.
Yes, yerba mate is packed with valuable nutrients: caffeine, theobromine, antioxidants, vitamins (A, B, C, E), and minerals such as potassium, magnesium, and iron. These can stimulate metabolism, improve concentration, and support the immune system. Air-dried yerba mate is particularly healthy – it's free of PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons), which are produced during smoke drying. Those who drink yerba mate daily also benefit from organic quality – no pesticides, just pure nature.
Mate tea has a strong, slightly bitter, and earthy flavor – depending on the variety, with grassy, nutty, or sweet notes. Green mate (like our Erva Mate) is fresh and grassy. Mature varieties (like yerba mate) have a more rounded flavor with delicate cocoa notes. Roasted mate surprises with a mild, nutty aroma. For a milder taste, use cooler water – the hotter the water, the more intense the flavor.
Yes, that's actually the traditional way. In a mate gourd with a bombilla (drinking tube) , mate can be steeped until the leaves are completely rinsed – often 10 infusions or more. With each infusion, the flavor becomes slightly milder. If the mate becomes too weak, simply add fresh leaves. Those who prepare mate like tea in a teapot or French press can steep it 2-3 times. Either way, one serving is enough for the whole day.
Mate has an invigorating and concentration-enhancing effect – thanks to caffeine, theobromine, and theophylline. Unlike coffee, its effects are gentler and last longer, often 3–4 hours. Many describe the feeling as alert and relaxed without nervousness. Additionally, the ingredients stimulate the metabolism and can support digestion.
